Midnight Facial from ELEMIS is a prebiotic overnight sleeping cream. It’s meant to replenish and hydrate the skin while you sleep.
The featured ingredients are camu camu, cocoa butter and banana flower extract.
This product is rated a 6 on the EWG’s Skin Deep Cosmetics Database website. Products rated between 4 and 6 are generally considered a moderate risk to your health. In this case it’s likely due to the possibility of allergies.
ELEMIS is a higher-end skincare brand based in London, England. They do a lot of research and development, as well as testing and clinical trials, to ensure that their products are effective.
I have been fortunate enough to have tried quite a few products from this brand before I started writing reviews. I hope to continue to review more products in the future.
Benefits of Midnight Facial
The benefits of this treatment may include:
- Hydrated skin
- Improved radiance
- Improved softness
My Review
This review is based solely on my own personal use of the product over a period of time. In this case I used the product 2 to 3 times a week for about 3 weeks and will continue to use it until the jar is gone.
I do also research other reviews and ratings to see if there are any other pros or cons to the product that come up often that may not have affected me.
My Skin Type
In general, I have normal to combination skin. While my facial skin isn’t sensitive at all, I do sometimes react to products on my neck.
I’m in my mid-40’s with only some fine lines around the eyes and some minor, but expected, loss of firmness.
How I Use Midnight Facial
I typically use the Midnight Facial sleep mask on the nights that I don’t use retinol. It is a thick gel-like cream and does have a somewhat strong scent.
There was a few times that I used it over retinol, but I felt it was too much and it made my eyes burn and water. I really prefer not to mix too many products, especially from different brands.
When my face dried out while testing Herbivore Bakuchiol, I used this mask for 2 nights to get my skin back to normal.
With that said, it does do a great job at hydrating the skin. Even though it’s a thicker cream and is obviously fragranced, I did not have any irritation at all other than with my eyes which may be from mixing products.
Cons
No one product is perfect for everyone. For me, the scent is bothersome, but I don’t often like the way luxury skincare products smell. They tend to be strong and florally, which I guess is supposed to be part of the lux experience.
While the reviews are mostly positive, there are a few issues that come up repeatedly with other reviews:
- Scent: some love it, some hate it.
- Breakouts: some people have had issues with irritation and breakouts.
- Half filled jars: while the volume may be correct, there are a lot of reviews complaining about the jar only being half filled. One person did post a photo comparing it to a larger jar that is supposed to have the same amount of product and there is a big difference.
- No change in skin: it’s often the case that sometimes, a product just doesn’t work as well, if at all, for some people.
