I’m excited to bring you my December Boxycharm review. This post is regarding the base box as it’s pretty awesome – especially for the price!
It’s actually a toss up this month as to which is better – this box or my my premium box.
Below, I will explain exactly how BoxyCharm works below, as well as share my thoughts on the items that I received. If you already know the deal, skip on down to the December 2020 BoxyCharm Review heading.
What Is Boxycharm?
Boxycharm is a monthly beauty subscription. They send a variety of skin care, hair care, and makeup products and tools each month.
How Does Boxycharm Work?
This is where things get a little bit confusing, so I will try to break it down and make it easy to understand.
Boxycharm has 3 different types of boxes, their regular monthly base box, a premium monthly box, and a luxury box that is only available quarterly.
Initially, I wanted to only sign up for the premium box. I kept seeing a button for “Join The Waitlist” but every time I clicked it, it took me to the page to sign up for the regular monthly box.
As it turns out, you have to be a subscriber to the monthly base box in order to be able to add-on the Premium box. That’s right, you will get two different boxes each month – each with it’s own cost (more on that in a minute).
BoxyLuxe is a luxury box available every 3 months. You pay an additional fee to upgrade your base box to a luxury box. More details on this box are below.
How Much Does Boxycharm Cost?
Here’s a quick breakdown of each box, how much it costs, and what you can expect to get.
- BoxyCharm Monthly Base Box: this box is $24.99 a month. You will receive 5 full size beauty products, one of which you get to choose, with a value of at least $120.00. There is a huge variety of brands from lesser known brands to very popular brands. There are also many box variations each month, so what I have in my box may be completely different from what you will receive.
- BoxyCharm Premium: to get this box, you must be subscribed to the base box for $24.99/month, then join the waitlist for Premium. Once you are activated from the waitlist, you pay an additional $35.00/month for this box. There is a note that you can cancel either your base box or Premium box at anytime after the first month of being subscribed to both. The Premium box has 6-7 full size beauty products, one of which you get to choose, with a value of at least $175.00.
- BoxyLuxe: this is a quarterly box that replaces your base box if you choose to upgrade. The cost is an additional $25.00. You will get 8-9 full size beauty and lifestyle products, with the ability to choose up to 2 products. The value of this box is at least $250.
All of the boxes are eligible for add-on’s, access to the pop-up shops, and rewards for reviewing the products that you receive in your box each month.
It seems as if there is frequently a bonus for new subscibers, you can check out the current offers on the BoxyCharm website sign up page.

December 2020 Boxycharm Review
Glamnetic Babygirl Lashes and Black Liquid Magnetic Liner ($63.00)
I think I am definitely in the minority here, but I get excited to receive eyelashes. I have seen some people say they get them too much, but I’ve only ever gotten them twice!
These lashes were one of the choice items this month, along with another style of lashes from the same brand, a mini curling iron, and a pressed banana powder from Ofra Cosmetics.
When I went into my account to choose, it was a couple of hours after choice opened. This was the only style of lashes left and the curling iron was “sold out” even though it was available for sale in the Pop Up section of the website (confusing).
I love these though. The style isn’t too over the top and I love the idea of magnetic eyeliner instead of glue to attach them.
I haven’t tried them yet because I pretty much only take my kids to school and back these days, but I’m looking forward to wearing them for the holidays – even if it’s just hanging at home with the family.
Elemis Superfood Glow Priming Moisturizer ($49.00)
I was also really happy to see this moisturizer from Elemis. I received an eye mask in my premium box from this brand as well this month.
So far I have been really happy with the few products I have tried from Elemis, so even though I am way backed up getting through all the face creams and oils that I’ve gotten from Boxycharm, I can’t wait to try this one.
Typically I prefer moisturizers that are super hydrating, but also anti-aging. If they help prevent/reduce the appearance of dark spots – even better.
This one contains kombucha, ginger, and prebiotics to brighten, nourish, and hydrate. So, it’s not exactly what I prefer, but will be nice to rotate with.
Artist Couture Caliente Palette ($30.00)
I was not so happy to have gotten this eyeshadow palette. I just can’t see myself wearing most of these colors. Yellow, orange, and bright pinks just aren’t for me.
I do like the one peach shimmer in the bottom row, but not enough to keep the entire palette.
I’ll be donating this or including it in a giveaway.
Mac Cosmetics Lustre Lipstick in Plumful ($19.00)
This lipstick reminds me of my early years when I first started getting into makeup. Plum was a popular shade to wear.
I don’t think I’ve ever gotten lipstick or lipgloss in a shade similar to this in all my years of subscribing to various subscription boxes.
I’m excited to give it a try and see how it looks on me these days.
The Original Makeup Eraser – The Sponge ($18.00)
I was kind of indifferent to this sponge when I first saw it in the box, but the more I read about it the more I love the concept.
It’s a machine-washable makeup sponge. You simply place it inside of the pink ball-shaped case and pop it in the washing machine AND then into the dryer.
I use sponges mostly for powder, so they don’t get too icky, but I honestly can’t wait to try this one out.
Final Thoughts
This box is a great one for me!
The retail value of this particular box variation is $179.00 according to the values listed by BoxyCharm. This is a great value for me, especially considering the $25 cost of this box and because I will use every item except for the palette.
This month, I am most excited about the eyelashes, the lipstick and the Elemis moisturizer.
There are quite a few items that subscribers had to choose from for their January 2021 box. They are:
- Pur 4-in-1 Tinted Moisturizer
- Persona Cosmetics PowerBrush
- The Lyfestyle Co Reset Mist
- Aced Beaute Bronzed in Paradise Palette
- Avant Skincare Bi-phase Hyaluronic Acid Rejuvenating Micellar Water
- Beauty Creations Esmeralda II Eyeshadow Palette
- Laura Geller Hi-Def Glow Illuminator Duo in Heart of Gold
It seems like Boxy is trying to offload some extra products this month. I think a few of these (at least!) have been in past boxes.
I ended up choosing the Pur 4-in-1 Tinted Moisturizer. I am currently using the Kosas Tinted Oil Foundation that I received in my October 2020 Boxycharm Premium box and like it a lot.
I’m hoping this one is comparable.
