This month, I was a little on the fence about what to expect in my Boxycharm Premium box.
Usually the choice items make me feel like regardless of the remaining items, I’ll be happy with the box overall. However, I was unfamiliar with the brand whose products made up the 3 choice items.
After seeing the items that you could receive in both the base and premium boxes, I feel that the base box options are far better. However, I am actually pretty happy with what showed up in my box.
I’ll explain exactly how BoxyCharm works below, as well as share a complete review of my BoxyCharm Premium box. If you already know the deal, skip on down to the October 2020 BoxyCharm Premium Review heading.
What Is Boxycharm?
Boxycharm is a monthly beauty subscription. They send a variety of skin care, hair care, and makeup products and tools each month.
How Does Boxycharm Work?
This is where things get a little bit confusing, so I will try to break it down and make it easy to understand.
Boxycharm has 3 different types of boxes, their regular monthly base box, a premium monthly box, and a luxury box that is only available quarterly.
Initially, I wanted to only sign up for the premium box. I kept seeing a button for “Join The Waitlist” but every time I clicked it, it took me to the page to sign up for the regular monthly box.
As it turns out, you have to be a subscriber to the monthly base box in order to be able to add-on the Premium box. That’s right, you will get two different boxes each month – each with it’s own cost (more on that in a minute).
BoxyLuxe is a luxury box available every 3 months. You pay an additional fee to upgrade your base box to a luxury box. More details on this box are below.
How Much Does Boxycharm Cost?
Here’s a quick breakdown of each box, how much it costs, and what you can expect to get.
- BoxyCharm Monthly Base Box: this box is $24.99 a month. You will receive 5 full size beauty products, one of which you get to choose, with a value of at least $120.00. There is a huge variety of brands from lesser known brands to very popular brands. There are also many box variations each month, so what I have in my box may be completely different from what you will receive.
- BoxyCharm Premium: to get this box, you must be subscribed to the base box for $24.99/month, then join the waitlist for Premium. Once you are activated from the waitlist, you pay an additional $35.00/month for this box. There is a note that you can cancel either your base box or Premium box at anytime after the first month of being subscribed to both. The Premium box has 6-7 full size beauty products, one of which you get to choose, with a value of at least $175.00.
- BoxyLuxe: this is a quarterly box that replaces your base box if you choose to upgrade. The cost is an additional $25.00. You will get 8-9 full size beauty and lifestyle products, with the ability to choose up to 2 products. The value of this box is at least $250.
All of the boxes are eligible for add-on’s, access to the pop-up shops, and rewards for reviewing the products that you receive in your box each month.
It seems as if there is frequently a bonus for new subscibers, you can check out the current offers on the BoxyCharm website sign up page.

October 2020 Boxycharm Premium Review
Kosas Tinted Face Oil Foundation ($42.00)
The choice items this month were all from the brand Kosas. There were powder and cream blush sets and a tinted face oil foundation.
I believe that the blushes I would have wanted were unavailable by the time I logged in to choose my item, but I wanted to try this foundation too.
I love that it’s a lightweight foundation that moisturizes. I don’t wear foundation over my entire face because I never like the way it looks on my skin. I’m super excited to see how this one works for me.
Illuminati X Isa Eyeshadow Palette ($48.00)
What’s a monthly Boxycharm without an eyeshadow palette?
This palette came wrapped in plastic. I wasn’t going to open it because I already have most, if not all, of these colors. There was no other way to show the colors than to unwrap it, but I still doubt I’ll use it.
If I decide to not keep it, expect to see it in a giveaway soon!
Laura Geller Fifty Kisses Lip Locking Liquid Color ($21.00)
Laura Geller is another brand that I find in my Boxycharm boxes quite often.
This lip color is called ruby romance and it is bright! I definitely don’t feel it’s a very fall or winter shade and it might just be too bright for me.
If I decide to not try it, once again, it will be in a future giveaway.
Jouer Cosmetics Lip Enhancer ($17.00)
I wasn’t too excited for this item, but it was because I thought it was another one of those lip products that changes color with you pH. I hate those.
Thankfully, this is not one of those. It’s a very moisturizing lip balm. I have tried it a couple of times and while I like the way my lips feel, I don’t love the scent. It smells almost florally, which isn’t so good on the lips.
However, I will definitely use it because it does make your lips feel so soft and it lasts a long time.
Go-To Skincare Exfoliating Swipeys ($35.00)
I love getting skincare in subscription boxes because the cost for good skincare is usually insane.
I’ve never used an exfoliator like this before. There are actually 50 pads in this package so it will last a really long time if you don’t exfoliate more than 1-2 times a week.
I haven’t tried them yet, but I plan to very soon!
Murad Hydrating Toner ($35.00)
I have been loving Murad products lately so I was really happy to see this toner in my box.
I’m currently using a toner from The Ordinary. Toner is weird stuff because you can’t usually tell if it’s doing anything. I love that this one says it’s moisturizing, so hopefully I’ll see some visible benefits once I start using it.
Also, the spray applicator is a great addition!
Final Thoughts
The retail value of my particular box is $198.00 which is good for a $35.00. Obviously, this is only the case if you are going to actually use most or all the items.
Overall I am happy with my version of this month’s Boxycharm Premium box. It’s not my favorite, but I definitely received a few items that I will surely use.
In addition to the foundation, I will also use the lip enhancer, toner, and exfoliating wipes. I’m on the fence about the lip color and the eyeshadow palette.
I’m not really excited for November based on the choice items, but I do love that the majority of the items that come each month are still a surprise and could be really amazing. The choice items for November are:
- Smashbox Photo Finish Fresh Setting Powder (was only available in medium/dark and I am light)
- Illamasqua Nude Collection Unveiled Artistry Palette
I ended up choosing the palette only because the finishing powder was not available in my shade. Which are you going to pick?
