Rose Hip Seed Oil from The Ordinary is a topical facial oil with anti-aging properties that also helps combat dryness and dullness of the skin.

It’s cold-pressed to keep it fresh and effective for a longer period of time. Rose hip seed oil can turn fairly rancid quickly. This one should last 6 months once opened.

This product is not listed on EWG’s Skin Deep Cosmetics Database website, but other products from The Ordinary are mostly rated low, which means that they can generally be regarded as a low hazard to your health.

Benefits of Rose Hip Seed Oil

The benefits of using rose hip seed oil include:

  • increased hydration
  • increased brightness
  • targets signs of photo aging

My Review

A dropper filled with rose hip seed oil being held up over a bottle from The Ordinary.

This review is based solely on my own personal use of the product over a period of time. In this case I used the entire bottle over a period of about 1 month.

I do also research other reviews and ratings to see if there are any other pros or cons to the product that come up often that may not have affected me.

My Skin Type

I have normal to combination skin. I do get a tad oily, mostly around my nose. There are visible pores on my nose and cheeks. I do not get blemishes often.

There is a larger dark spot on one check and some smaller spots or freckling around my eyes. I also have several areas of melasma under my eyes and on my cheeks.

I’m in my mid-forties with only slight fine lines around my eyes that become more visible when I smile. I am also noticing a decrease in firmness lately.

There are dark circles under my eyes and especially in the inner corners of my eyes.

How I Use Rose Hip Seed Oil

I’ve use rose hip seed oil on and off for years due to its anti-aging properties. This is the first time I have used The Ordinary brand.

I used this in the evening after cleansing. I don’t put additional moisturizer over it.

When I use rose hip seed oil, my skin looks healthier and more hydrated. I do feel it helps with the fine lines, especially around my eyes.

In the past, I’ve also used rose hip seed oil as an eye treatment in the mornings as well.

I didn’t have any irritation or other issues while using this oil. It’s definitely a product I will continue to use.

I don’t really know that this rose hip seed oil is any better than others on the market, but it is very reasonably priced and does come from a reputable brand.

I would recommend this for anyone hoping to slow down or improve the lines that form during the aging process.

Cons

No one product is perfect for everyone.

After reading through many reviews of this product, there are two issues come up more than anything else.

The first is that some people believe that the product caused breakouts or “purging” of their skin. I can see that some skin types might not respond well to adding oil to it.

Others have said that the product smelled like fish and may have gone rancid. This seems to be an older issue that has possibly been dealt with by The Ordinary.

As always, I do recommend trying this product if you think the benefits outweigh the cons for your own skin type.

Products from The Ordinary are so budget-friendly that they are absolutely worth trying.
