I absolutely loved my August 2020 Boxycharm Premium box and have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of September’s box.
Once again, after seeing the choice items, I knew that I was already going to be happy with this box. If I get one item that I will use that is highly rated and valued higher than the total cost of this box, it’s a win. If the additional products aren’t for me, I can always donate them or include them in a giveaway.
After seeing the rest of my items, I feel this is a so-so box for me. There are some definite wins and a couple of products that I am on the fence about.
I’ll explain exactly how BoxyCharm works below, as well as share a complete review of my BoxyCharm Premium box. If you already know the deal, skip on down to the September 2020 BoxyCharm Premium Review heading.
What Is Boxycharm?
Boxycharm is a monthly beauty subscription. They send a variety of skin care, hair care, and makeup products and tools each month.
How Does Boxycharm Work?
This is where things get a little bit confusing, so I will try to break it down and make it easy to understand.
Boxycharm has 3 different types of boxes, their regular monthly base box, a premium monthly box, and a luxury box that is only available quarterly.
Initially, I wanted to only sign up for the premium box. I kept seeing a button for “Join The Waitlist” but every time I clicked it, it took me to the page to sign up for the regular monthly box.
As it turns out, you have to be a subscriber to the monthly base box in order to be able to add-on the Premium box. That’s right, you will get two different boxes each month – each with it’s own cost (more on that in a minute).
BoxyLuxe is a luxury box available every 3 months. You pay an additional fee to upgrade your base box to a luxury box. More details on this box are below.
How Much Does Boxycharm Cost?
Here’s a quick breakdown of each box, how much it costs, and what you can expect to get.
- BoxyCharm Monthly Base Box: this box is $24.99 a month. You will receive 5 full size beauty products, one of which you get to choose, with a value of at least $120.00. There is a huge variety of brands from lesser known brands to very popular brands. There are also many box variations each month, so what I have in my box may be completely different from what you will receive.
- BoxyCharm Premium: to get this box, you must be subscribed to the base box for $24.99/month, then join the waitlist for Premium. Once you are activated from the waitlist, you pay an additional $35.00/month for this box. There is a note that you can cancel either your base box or Premium box at anytime after the first month of being subscribed to both. The Premium box has 6-7 full size beauty products, one of which you get to choose, with a value of at least $175.00.
- BoxyLuxe: this is a quarterly box that replaces your base box if you choose to upgrade. The cost is an additional $25.00. You will get 8-9 full size beauty and lifestyle products, with the ability to choose up to 2 products. The value of this box is at least $250.
All of the boxes are eligible for add-on’s, access to the pop-up shops, and rewards for reviewing the products that you receive in your box each month.
It seems as if there is frequently a bonus for new subscibers, you can check out the current offers on the BoxyCharm website sign up page.

September 2020 Boxycharm Premium Review
Marc Jacobs Youthquake ($85.00)
The choice items this month were, once again, pretty amazing. Premium Boxycharm subscribers could choose 1 of these three items:
- Marc Jacobs Youthquake Hydra-full Retexturizing Gel Crème Moisturizer
- Marc Jacobs Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter
- Ole Henriksen Phat Glow Facial Mask
Initially, I was drawn to the highlighter. The idea of it smelling like coconut in addition to the pretty packaging was pulling me in. However, the skincare addict in me couldn’t resist trying the Youthquake, especially after reading so many raving reviews.
Eloise Beauty The Queen Eyeshadow Palette ($46.00)
I was hoping to not get this, but had a feeling I would. It seems to be showing up in most boxes this month.
It’s actually a very pretty palette, but I’m not sure I will get much use out of it.
I’m going to read some reviews and see how it compares to the colors I already have in other palettes.
If I decide to not keep it, expect to see it in a giveaway soon!
Emma Hardie Brilliance Facial Oil ($55.00)
I was also hoping to not get this oil. I’m super picky about the oils I use on my skin.
I prefer to use straight rose hip seed oil (The Ordinary is my favorite). The only other oil product that I love is the DHC Cleansing Oil.
This facial oil is a combination of 9 different oils, including rose. I’m undecided if I’ll give it a try when my current bottle runs out.
If I decide to not try it, once again, it will be in a future giveaway.
Kitsch Ice Roller ($18.00)
I received an ice roller in my Summer 2020 FabFitFun box, so I was a little disappointed to see this one in my box. Obviously Boxycharm has no idea that I already have one.
I keep the one I have in the freezer and rarely use it. I just forget about it in there. But, it does have a lot of uses in addition to skincare, like bug bites or burns.
I’ll be including this in a giveaway soon!
Milk Makeup Kush Lip Scrub ($22.00)
There were two Milk Makeup products that you could get in the Premium box this month. I was really hoping the highlighter would not show up in my box.
Thankfully, I got the lip scrub. I LOVE that this is a solid, rather than a pot. I’m 1,000 times more likely to use a scrub in this form.
I have allergies and tend to get really dry lips in the winter, so this is a great item to receive.
Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner ($22.00)
So happy to have gotten this Stila eye liner. I’ve use several different colors from this line and really like them.
From my past experience, this liner is easy to apply and stays on all day.
The color that I got is Damsel and it’s a rich brown.
Final Thoughts
The retail value of my particular box is $222.00 which is amazing for a $35.00. Obviously, this is only the case if you are going to actually use most or all the items.
Overall I am happy with my version of this month’s Boxycharm Premium box.. The fact that I already knew that I was getting 1 product that I would definitely use made it worth to me even without the other 5 items.
In addition to the Youthquake, I’ll also use the eye liner and lip scrub. I’m on the fence about the oil and the eyeshadow palette. The only item I definitely don’t want or need is the ice roller and that’s because I already have one.
I’m really looking forward to October’s BoxyCharm Premium box. The choice items are:
- Kosas Tinted Face Oil Foundation
- Kosas Color and Light Palette Cream or Powder Blush and Highlighter Set
Which are you going to pick?
