Red hematoid quartz is also commonly referred to as fire quartz. Other less common names are red hematite in quartz, specularite quartz and ferruginous quartz.

When in its natural state, the red is more dull or dim, though still very beautiful.

When heat treated, the red becomes more vibrant and the quartz can take on more of a crackle appearance.

Both forms are beautiful and equally as beneficial.

Crystals should only be purchased from reliable sellers who source their products consciously. There are many fake crystals on the market and unethical practices in sourcing these stones.

We have consciously sourced, legitimate Red Hematoid Quartz (usually from Madagascar) available for sale in our Etsy store, with new options added regularly. You can also find us on Tiktok where we hold really fun live sales.

Five years ago I bought the only four pieces of faceted stones that I saw on my 4 week trip to Madagascar., that resemble this material. I saw plenty quartz. with coppery colored inclusions, most of which failed to inspire my interest,as that material was so common in the US.. Does heat treatment cause the vivid red inclusions?
    thanks for your time

Hi Gerard! When red hematoid quartz is heat treated it does bring out the red hematite inclusions definitely making them more vivid. Lately, this is being sold under the trade name “fire quartz” though natural red hematoid quartz is easy to come as well.

      Hope this helps,
      Lauren
