For my October 2020 Birchbox, I opted to choose a sample and let the rest be a surprise. I didn’t care for some of the items in the curated boxes (and my shade choice was sold out by the time I got to choose anyway), but I love that they were both full of black-owned beauty brands.
I actually prefer to choose a sample and let the rest be a surprise, so I was really happy to actually like one of the sample choices this month. In fact, I was torn between two of them and actually got both anyway!
Below you can learn more about Birchbox and see all of the items that I received. If you already know how Birchbox works, go ahead and skip on down to the October 2020 Birchbox Review heading.

What Is Birchbox?
Birchbox is a monthly beauty sample box subscription. They send samples (and occasionally full size items) of skin care, makeup, hair care, and small life style products.
Can You Customize Your Birchbox?
You can customize your Birchbox to some extent.
Most months you can either chose 1 sample with the remaining samples being a surprise, or choose a curated box in which you will know all of the samples, or exchange your box for a full size product or points that can be used to purchase items in their online store.
Curated boxes and full size items tend to go pretty fast, but they are now saying that they will always have 2 curated boxes and more of them available.
You can also opt out of all of these options and have your entire box be a surprise.
Birchbox sends out tons of different box variations each month. What you get, if you sign up and receive a September 2020 Birchbox, may vary greatly from what is shown in this review.
How Much Does Birchbox Cost?
There are 3 options when signing up for a Birchbox subscription:
- Monthly Plan: $15 a month and you can cancel anytime.
- 6 Month Plan: $14 a month and you are committing to 6 months, but billed monthly.
- 12 Month Plan: $13 a month and you are committing to 12 months, but billed monthly.
You can see all of the details and any free gifts or discounts with purchase from the sign up screen on the Birchbox website. They usually have some pretty good incentives for signing up!
October 2020 Birchbox Unboxing Video
Sorry! I just didn’t have time to make an unboxing video this month. Hopefully I’ll have a new one up next month.
October 2020 Birchbox Review
Birchbox always comes with a little card that has each product listed on it, as well as the full size value of the item.
Davines Dede Shampoo and Conditioner
I absolutely love this brand and am always happy to see their products showing up in my box. One of my all time favorite shampoo and conditioners is Davines Oi.
This set is a daily shampoo and conditioner for all hair types. I don’t wash my hair everyday, but I don’t think that really matters.
I do hate how the shampoo sample is SO much bigger than the little packet of conditioner.
Chella Hello Beautiful Eyeshadow Palette
This is a mini palette with 4 shades.
The colors are very neutral and perfect for fall. I think I’ll actually use them all too!
Luxie Beauty Precision Blending Brush
I do love eyeshadow brushes, but I have so many.
I’ll include this one in a giveaway soon!
Oribe Featherbalm Weightless Styler
This was one of the choice items this month, but not the one I picked. I’m not mad that it showed up though. Oribe is one of my favorite hair care brands.
I’m not sure if this a product that I’ll love for my particular hair, but since I love their regular styling cream so much, I plan to give this a try too.
Kiehl’s Powerful-strength Dark Circle Reducing Vitamin C Eye Serum
This is the sample that I chose this month. I will try anything once in an attempt to reduce the appearance of dark circles.
I love this brand and do believe they put out some really high quality products, but I don’t have much faith that this will actually work. I’ve had dark circles my whole life and nothing has ever made them look better, except a tan.
I’m still going to try it though, because who knows, it might be a miracle cream!
Final Thoughts
Once again, I was really happy with this box. I feel that the items were all good choices for me. With the exception of the brush, I’m happy to get to try them all this month,
I believe that I have 1 more box left in my subscription. While I enjoy trying new products, I am pretty sure that I’m going to be canceling after my yearly subscription expires.
I prefer boxes where you get full size items like BoxyCharm which is only $12 more and you get 5 full size products, and FabFitFun where with a yearly subscription, you can pick 5 of the items plus add on more for a really low price.
Birchbox is still a great way to try new things though, and is still a fun option for a lot people.
