Last month I shared my first Boxycharm review and mentioned that I initially only wanted to sign up for the premium box. BoxyCharm works a bit differently in that you have to be a subscriber to the base box to get on the wait list for the premium box. I’ll explain more further below.
I signed up for the base box in May (and loved it!) and immediately joined the wait list for Premium. I had NO idea how long it would take to be added to the subscription, so I was surprised to see that I was pulled off in time for the June BoxyCharm Premium box!
I’ll explain exactly how BoxyCharm works below, as well as share my first BoxyCharm Premium review. If you already know the deal, skip on down to the June 2020 BoxyCharm Premium Review heading.
What Is Boxycharm?
Boxycharm is a monthly beauty subscription. They send a variety of skin care, hair care, and makeup products and tools each month.
How Does Boxycharm Work
This is where things get a little bit confusing, so I will try to break it down and make it easy to understand.
Boxycharm has 3 different types of boxes, their regular monthly base box, a premium monthly box, and a luxury box that is only available quarterly.
Initially, I wanted to only sign up for the premium box. I kept seeing a button for “Join The Waitlist” but every time I clicked it, it took me to the page to sign up for the regular monthly box.
As it turns out, you have to be a subscriber to the monthly base box in order to be able to add-on the Premium box. That’s right, you will get two different boxes each month – each with it’s own cost (more on that in a minute).
BoxyLuxe is a luxury box available every 3 months. You pay an additional fee to upgrade your base box to a luxury box. More details on this box are below.
How Much Does Boxycharm Cost?
Here’s a quick breakdown of each box, how much it costs, and what you can expect to get.
- BoxyCharm Monthly Base Box: this box is $24.99 a month. You will receive 5 full size beauty products, one of which you get to choose, with a value of at least $120.00. There is a huge variety of brands from lesser known brands to very popular brands. There are also many box variations each month, so what I have in my box may be completely different from what you will receive.
- BoxyCharm Premium: to get this box, you must be subscribed to the base box for $24.99/month, then join the waitlist for Premium. Once you are activated from the waitlist, you pay an additional $35.00/month for this box. There is a note that you can cancel either your base box or Premium box at anytime after the first month of being subscribed to both. The Premium box has 6-7 full size beauty products, one of which you get to choose, with a value of at least $175.00.
- BoxyLuxe: this is a quarterly box that replaces your base box if you choose to upgrade. The cost is an additional $25.00. You will get 8-9 full size beauty and lifestyle products, with the ability to choose up to 2 products. The value of this box is at least $250.
All of the boxes are eligible for add-on’s, access to the pop-up shops, and rewards for reviewing the products that you receive in your box each month.
It seems as if there is frequently a bonus for new subscibers, you can check out the current offers on the BoxyCharm website sign up page.
June 2020 BoxyCharm Premium Review
So, like I mentioned above, this is my first BoxyCharm Premium box. I was so excited for each box to arrive. Part of that comes from really not knowing everything that’s going to be in the box.
This box is amazing! I could not be happier with the items that I received.
I do want to note that I did not get to choose an item this month because even though I signed up in May, it was I after the cutoff to choose for June. Come July, I should be able to choose one product and will explain that better once I’ve gone through the process.
Glow Recipe Avocado Melt Retinol Sleeping Mask ($49.00)
This is an item that all BoxyCharm Premium subscribers should be receiving this month, and a bit part of why I wanted in on this sub as soon as possible!
This mask is one that you wear overnight while sleeping a few times a week. You can also use it as a flash facial, if you’d rather not sleep with it on.
As I’m getting older, I know that retinol is something that I should be using, but don’t. This mask is supposed to improve your skin’s elasticity, as well as smooth and hydrate. All things our skin can use even more as we age.
I am planning to test this out as instructed and write up a second review – stay tuned!
Tarte Tarteist Pro Remix Amazonian Clay Palette ($49.00)
I was pleasantly surprised to open my box and find this Tarte eyeshadow palette inside.
Premium subscribers were supposed to receive a Too Faced Cocoa Couture Palette, but as it turns out, new Premium subscribers got this palette instead.
I actually have a brand new Tarte contouring palette that I have yet to open and use. So, needless to say, I didn’t really need another one at the moment.
This palette is beautiful. I would say that I will definitely use more than half of these, and think it will be fun to experiment with some of the other colors that are more out of my comfort zone.
Bonus: it smells good!
UPDATE: shortly after pressing publish on this post, I received an email from BoxyCharm. Apparently, I was supposed to receive the Too Faced Palette.
BoxyCharm is issuing a $12 credit to use towards July Add-ons AND will be allowing me to choose 2 items in July. I have already chosen one.
Nice to see a company making things right, especially when I didn’t even realize they were wrong!
It’s $44.99 on Amazon, if interested.
NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment ($26.00)
I don’t remember ever owning or trying anything from NARS before, so this was a nice surprise.
This is a really pretty shade of rose pink that I think would work on most skin tones. It looks to be very similar to the KAB Lip Gloss that I received in my base box this month, so I’m not sure yet if I’m going to keep it.
I’m definitely leaning towards keeping it. It’s so pretty and it’s NARS. I think I owe it to myself to try it.
I’ll update this post after I decide.
Grace & Stella Anti-Wrinkle + Energizing Masks (6-Pack $25.00)
I was surprised by how heavy my BoxyCharm box was when I first picked it up off of the porch. A big reason for that is this pack of facial masks.
There are 6 masks in this box. They are designed to diminish the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by boosting collagen production and rejuvenating the skin.
I use collagen peptides in my chai tea multiple times a day, so this will be a great way to get a collagen boost directly through my skin, as well.
I’m excited to try these, and even more excited to realize that BoxyCharm really does cater to all age groups!
I may decide to do a separate full review on these masks too!
Billion Dollar Brows Sculpting Duo Brush ($30.00)
This brush is incredibly soft. The bristles on the larger, contouring brush end are densely packed, but still gently. The smaller end is for highlighting.
I guess I’ll need to open that contouring palette sooner than later to give this brush a try!
Living Proof Restore Instant Protection ($28.00)
I have always wanted to try something from this brand. I would have preferred a shampoo or conditioner, but this does look interesting.
I actually wasn’t quite sure what it was, then I thought it was a traditional hairspray until I read that it doesn’t dry. Intriguing, right?
It’s basically a shine spray that protects your hair from UV lights and heat styling that uses temperatures up to 450°F. You can use it on damp or dry hair before styling, or you can use it after styling as a finishing spray.
Final Thoughts
The retail value of my particular box is $207.00 which, in my opinion, is a great deal. I spent $35.00 and received 6 products that I’ll use and hopefully love.
I was especially happy to have gotten all items from brands that I’ve head of. In the base box, there have been more that are unknown to me. But, even if there were items that I didn’t care for, I could easily gift them or donate them.
This month I love everything and will be trying it all! I’ll also be reviewing my items on the BoxyCharm website to earn Charm (points) that can be exchanged for products after you earn a certain amount.
I’m really looking forward to July’s BoxyCharm base and Premium boxes now!
