I’m back with another Birchbox subscription review! This month, I chose one of the 2 curated boxes that they offered rather than picking a sample or exchanging my box for points or the full size product.
The two curated boxes were both pretty good, but I chose the box of Katia’s picks because I thought I would be more likely to use all of those products rather than the ones that came in the clean beauty curated box.
It seems as if Birchbox is now going to always offer 2 curated boxes, including a clean beauty box option. They are also planning to have more of these curated boxes available – a lot of people were complaining about curated boxes selling out really fast.
The full size product this month was yet another lip balm that changes color based on your pH. I really don’t understand what all the fuss is about these things.
What Is Birchbox?
Birchbox is a monthly beauty sample box subscription. They send samples (and occasionally full size items) of skin care, makeup, hair care, and small life style products.
Can You Customize Your Birchbox?
You can customize your Birchbox to some extent.
Most months you can either chose 1 sample with the remaining samples being a surprise, or choose a curated box in which you will know all of the samples, or exchange your box for a full size product or points that can be used to purchase items in their online store.
Curated boxes and full size items tend to go pretty fast, but they are now saying that they will have more available.
You can also opt out of all of these options and have your entire box be a surprise.
Birchbox sends out tons of different box variations each month. What you get, if you sign up and receive a June 2020 Birchbox may vary greatly from what is shown in this review.
How Much Does Birchbox Cost?
There are 3 options when signing up for a Birchbox subscription:
- Monthly Plan: $15 a month and you can cancel anytime.
- 6 Month Plan: $14 a month and you are committing to 6 months, but billed monthly.
- 12 Month Plan: $13 a month and you are committing to 12 months, but billed monthly.
You can see all of the details and any free gifts or discounts with purchase from the sign up screen on the Birchbox website. They usually have some pretty good incentives for signing up!
June 2020 Birchbox Review
Birchbox always comes with a little card that has each product listed on it, as well as the cost of the item if you were to purchase it in it’s full size.
Love of Color One & Done Shadow Stick
I’m not super excited for eye shadow at the moment (thanks to palette I just got in my May 2020 BoxyCharm with another one on the way!), but this one looked very wearable as well as quick and easy to apply.
It’s a shimmery light brown color. I can see using this one along the brow line or the inner corner of the eye. It would even be good on the lid, especially in summer.
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray
I love Oribe. They can literally do no wrong by me.
I’ve had samples of this product in different subscription boxes a few times now. It’s kind of like dry shampoo for clean hair. I use it on the day I wash my hair for added volume – if I’m going out of the house.
This brand is pretty expensive, so I don’t use it much when I’m staying home, which is pretty much all of the time at the moment.
Byroe Rice Cleansing Sorbet
I have never heard of this brand, but when I read that this cleanser is a cross between a cleaning oil and a cleansing balm, I knew I had to give it a try.
I love cleansing balms because they always leave your skin feeling super hydrated and work really well at removing makeup.
This one is no different. It works really well and has a nice scent to it, but at $72 for a full size jar, it’s just not in my price range for a facial cleanser.
Benefit Cosmetics Chachatint Lip & Cheek Stain
This lip and cheek stain is in the color “mango,” which is actually more of a coral shade. I tend to favor corals for blush and lip balm in the summer and absolutely love this color!
I have yet to use any self tanner, so I won’t use it until I do. I don’t love it on my very pale skin, but this is definitely a color that works with a little bit of a tan or on darker skin tones.
My Hair. My Canvas. New Beginnings Exfoliating Cleanser
The names of these products just keep getting longer and longer!
This is an exfoliating hair wash/scrub. I sampled dpHue’s ACV scalp scrub while back and love it, so I really wanted to try this product.
The grit in this scrub is pretty sparse. There isn’t a ton of it and I can’t feel it working at all, other than the shampooing aspect.
I love Alterna hair products, but this one just doesn’t do it for me. Definitely sticking with dpHue here.
Final Thoughts
Overall I thought this was a good box! I do miss the element of surprise when you choose a curated box. I do, however, appreciate knowing that I’m getting all items that I know I want to try.
I’m looking forward to next month. I don’t always want to choose curated boxes because I like the surprise element, but it’s hard to pass up a box full of stuff you know you want to try.
