The July Premium Boxycharm box is the third box since Boxycharm starting allowing subscribers to choose 2 of their items.
I’m actually really liking this feature. I know at least 2 items are products that I want. It’s also really making me consider canceling the base box, as I haven’t been thrilled with much in those the last few months.
This month the box was completely different than usual. It was a brand takeover box, which means that every item in the box is from a specific brand, this one being Anastasia Beverly Hills.
While I like this brand, I know they are well known for their eyebrow products, which I don’t really use. I wasn’t quite sure what else to possibly expect other than the products that I chose.
I’ll explain exactly how BoxyCharm works below, as well as share a complete review of the products that I did end up getting in my BoxyCharm Premium box. If you already know the deal, skip on down to the July 2021 BoxyCharm Premium Review heading.

What Is Boxycharm?
Boxycharm is a monthly beauty subscription. They send a variety of full size skin care, hair care, and makeup products and tools each month.
Each month there is a theme. This month it’s “Dare to Dazzle.”
How Does Boxycharm Work?
This is where things get a little bit confusing, so I will try to break it down and make it easy to understand.
Boxycharm has 3 different types of boxes, their regular monthly base box, a premium monthly box, and a luxury box that is only available quarterly.
Initially, I wanted to only sign up for the premium box. I kept seeing a button for “Join The Waitlist” but every time I clicked it, it took me to the page to sign up for the regular monthly box.
As it turns out, you have to be a subscriber to the monthly base box in order to be able to add-on the Premium box. That’s right, you will get two different boxes each month – each with its own cost (more on that in a minute). You can unsubscribe from the base box after that first month and just keep the Premium, if you want.
BoxyLuxe is a luxury box available every 3 months. You pay an additional fee to upgrade your base box to a luxury box. More details on this box are below.
How Much Does Boxycharm Cost?
Here’s a quick breakdown of each box, how much it costs, and what you can expect to get.
- BoxyCharm Monthly Base Box: this box is $24.99 a month. You will receive 5 full size beauty products, one of which you get to choose, with a value of at least $120.00. There is a huge variety of brands from lesser known brands to very popular brands. There are also many box variations each month, so what I have in my box may be completely different from what you will receive.
- BoxyCharm Premium: to get this box, you must be subscribed to the base box for $24.99/month, then join the waitlist for Premium. Once you are activated from the waitlist, you pay an additional $35.00/month for this box. There is a note that you can cancel either your base box or Premium box at anytime after the first month of being subscribed to both. The Premium box has 6-7 full size beauty products, two of which you get to choose, with a value of at least $175.00.
- BoxyLuxe: this is a quarterly box that replaces your base box if you choose to upgrade. The cost is an additional $25.00. You will get 8-9 full size beauty and lifestyle products, with the ability to choose up to 2 products. The value of this box is at least $250.
All of the boxes are eligible for add-on’s, access to the pop-up shops, and rewards for reviewing the products that you receive in your box each month.
It seems as if there is frequently a bonus for new subscibers, you can check out the current offers on the BoxyCharm website sign up page.
July 2021 BoxyCharm Premium Unboxing Video
Unfortunately, our home is still under renovation so videos are still on hold. I am crossing my fingers to be back home by August, but they just keep pushing things later and later.
July 2021 Boxycharm Premium Review
NORVINA® Pro Pigment Palette Vol. 1 ($60.00)
The first category for choices included:
Norvina is actually an Anastasia Beverly Hills brand. It seems they are pushing out the Norvina line at the moment to get the name out there.
I didn’t really want either of these palettes. I have way too many and didn’t think I would use most of the colors in either one.
They are really pretty and well put together and the palette is absolutely beautiful, but it’s just not for me. I would maybe use 10 of the 25 shades in the palette and that’s a big maybe.
I will likely give this one away.
The palette is made in the PRC (China).
ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Loose Setting Powder ($38.00)
The products for the second choice were:
- ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Powder Bronzer (3 shades to choose from)
- ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Loose Setting Powder (5 shades to choose from)
- ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Hydrating Oil
Again, none of these items really appealed to me, but I went with the powder. By the time I got around to choosing, the only shade left that would work for me was the basic translucent powder.
I don’t really use bronzer and have a ton of skin care products.
I’ll give it a try, but it will be awhile because I have several others to work my way through and I don’t really use much powder these days.
I find most my make skin look dry, especially around the eyes. I’m hoping this one won’t do that.
This product is made in the USA.
ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Clear Brow Gel ($22.00)
Being that ABH is known for their brow products, I was fully expecting at least one to be in the box.
I rarely use brow products and when I do it’s just a brown pencil to fill in thin areas.
I don’t need this product so I’ll be passing it along, as well.
This brow gel is made in the USA.
ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Liquid Lipstick in Malt ($20.00)
So, this is a brown liquid lipstick. Like a solid brown. This particular shade looks as if it might have reddish undertones, but it’s a huge no for me.
Once again, I’ll be passing this along.
This lipstick is made in PRC (China).
ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Lash Brag Volumizing Mascara ($25.00)
While there is not much exciting about mascara, I will actually keep this product and give a go.
I’m really picky with mascara because I do have a couple that work really well for me that most others I’ve tried don’t compare to.
Hopefully this will be a good one!
This mascara is made in Italy.
ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Waterproof Creme Color in Black ($18.00)
This creme color can be used as both an eyeliner and an eye primer when applying black eyeshadows.
I don’t wear black eyeshadow often and never do I want it super black, so I won’t use it that way.
I do wear black eyeliner often and will try it as a liner.
The reviews are mixed with some people saying it doesn’t budge and others saying it smudges everywhere.
This product is made in PRC (China).
Final Thoughts
The retail value of my particular box is $183.00 according to the values listed on the insert in the box.
I’m kind of let down by this box. Initially, I was excited about the brand takeover because I’ve had some products from ABH and really loved them.
I was hoping to get some new, fun things to dry, but it’s actually all pretty boring except the palette which won’t work for me.
I’ll be passing along the palette, brow gel, and lipstick. I’m keeping a few very basic items – setting powder, mascara and black eyeliner.
Just a bummer.
August 2021 Boxycharm Premium Choice Options
The FIRST choice items for the August 2021 Boxycharm Premium box are:
The SECOND choice items for the August 2021 Boxycharm Premium box are:
- VESCA BEAUTY Kissed By Soft-Matte Bronzing Powder
- VESCA BEAUTY Stargaze Luminous Glow Highlighting Powder
- VESCA BEAUTY Moonlit Dream Cream Shadow
- VESCA BEAUTY Lush Glow Creamy Lip Oil
- VESCA BEAUTY Soft Sun Radiant Skin Primer & Luminizer
- HAUS LABORATORIES Glam Attack Liquid Shimmer Powder
As with the choice items for the August base base, I wasn’t too thrilled with these choices either.
I chose the Fenty spray because I hadn’t heard of Wishful before and have plenty of moisturizers at the moment.
For my second choice I went with the Vesca Skin Primer in Glow. I haven’t heard of Vesca either, but of all of the items this is the one I thought I might use.
Here’s to hoping the rest of the items are better!
