Black Tourmaline is a very common crystal.

It’s an abundant crystal that many collectors will have multiple forms of.

For those into the metaphysical properties of crystals, black tourmaline is a must. It’s regarded as one of the most protective crystals one can own, and even wear on a daily basis.

What Is Black Tourmaline?

Black Tourmaline is a hexagonal crystal also known as schorl. It is a black silicate mineral that contains boron, iron, and aluminum.

Black is the most common color of tourmaline. It can have other inclusions including mica, lithium, and rarely elbaite.

Its hardness is 7 to 7.5.

Black Tourmaline is most often seen in raw form, but can also be bought in polished forms such as tumbled stones, towers and points, spheres, and beads. It is very commonly used in jewelry.

Tourmaline can also be found as an inclusion in other crystals.

Black Tourmaline is fairly common. It is mostly found in Brazil and many African countries including Madagascar, Namibia, and Kenya.

Chakras

Black Tourmaline is well known as a protective crystal, and is associated with the root chakra.

Zodiac

Black Tourmaline is primarily linked to the zodiac sign of Libra, though all signs can benefit from its metaphysical properties.

  • Protection from negative environments.
  • Decreased stress and anxiety.
  • Increased motivation.
  • Grounding.

How To Care For Black Tourmaline

Recharge Black Tourmaline by immersing it in running water, by placing it in sunlight for very short periods of time (to prevent fading), placing it in moonlight overnight, or by using other crystals, like Selenite. You can also remove any negative energy by smoke cleansing your crystals with incense.

Where To Buy Black Tourmaline

Crystals should only be purchased from reliable sellers who source their products consciously. There are many fake crystals on the market and unethical practices in sourcing these stones.

We have consciously sourced Black Tourmaline (primarily high quality pieces from Brazil) available for sale in our Etsy store or on our sister site, Jaxy Crystals, with new options added regularly. You can also find us on Tiktok where we hold really fun live sales.
