Both my August 2020 Boxycharm base box and my August 2020 Boxycharm Premium boxes were total wins! I already knew both would be worth it based solely on my choice items, but was pleasantly surprised by the rest.
My box last month was super lackluster, and I was even contemplating canceling the base box subscription. After this month, and after seeing the choice items for September, I am definitely staying subscribed.
Below I’ll explain exactly how BoxyCharm works, as well as share my BoxyCharm base box review. If you already know the deal, skip on down to the August 2020 BoxyCharm Review heading.
What is Boxycharm?
Boxycharm is a monthly beauty subscription. They send a variety of skin care, hair care, and makeup products and tools each month.
How Does Boxycharm Work?
This is where things get a little bit confusing, so I will try to break it down and make it easy to understand.
Boxycharm has 3 different types of boxes, their regular monthly base box, a premium monthly box, and a luxury box that is only available quarterly.
Initially, I wanted to only sign up for the premium box. I kept seeing a button for “Join The Waitlist” but every time I clicked it, it took me to the page to sign up for the regular monthly box.
As it turns out, you have to be a subscriber to the monthly base box in order to be able to add-on the Premium box. That’s right, you will get two different boxes each month – each with it’s own cost (more on that in a minute).
BoxyLuxe is a luxury box available every 3 months. You pay an additional fee to upgrade your base box to a luxury box. More details on this box are below.
How Much Does Boxycharm Cost?
Here’s a quick breakdown of each box, how much it costs, and what you can expect to get.
- BoxyCharm Monthly Base Box: this box is $24.99 a month. You will receive 5 full size beauty products, one of which you get to choose, with a value of at least $120.00. There is a huge variety of brands from lesser known brands to very popular brands. There are also many box variations each month, so what I have in my box may be completely different from what you will receive.
- BoxyCharm Premium: to get this box, you must be subscribed to the base box for $24.99/month, then join the waitlist for Premium. Once you are activated from the waitlist, you pay an additional $35.00/month for this box. There is a note that you can cancel either your base box or Premium box at anytime after the first month of being subscribed to both. The Premium box has 6-7 full size beauty products, one of which you get to choose, with a value of at least $175.00.
- BoxyLuxe: this is a quarterly box that replaces your base box if you choose to upgrade. The cost is an additional $25.00. You will get 8-9 full size beauty and lifestyle products, with the ability to choose up to 2 products. The value of this box is at least $250.
All of the boxes are eligible for add-on’s, access to the pop-up shops, and rewards for reviewing the products that you receive in your box each month.
It seems as if there is frequently a bonus for new subscibers, you can check out the current offers on the BoxyCharm website sign up page.

August 2020 Boxycharm Review
Glamglow Moisturetrip Omega Rich Face Moisturizer ($54.00)
Boxycharm’s August Choice was a difficult one this month. I was torn between the Too Faced Born This Way Concealer and this GlamGlow moisturizer.
I ended up going with the GlamGlow because I absolutely love this brand and can always use a high quality moisturizer.
This one is intended to reduce redness and calm irritation, but also contains hyaluronic acid for hydration. With winter creeping around the corner, this moisturizer may be exactly what I need to combat dry, irritated patches I sometimes get in the colder months.
Morphe Eye Got This Brush Set ($12.00)
I do like makeup brushes, but really don’t need anymore basic eyeshadow brushes.
This collection includes an oval shadow brush, a blending brush, a tapered mini blending brush, and an angled liner brush.
The reviews that I’ve read on these are mostly so-so. There are okay for a $3 per brush price point.
Rockins Cosmetics Big Fat Liner ($25.00)
Black eyeliner. It’s just hard to get excited for black eyeliners, especially when it comes in a big fat tube that reminds you of a smelly permanent marker.
Not that this smells bad, I haven’t opened it yet. I’m not sure I will. I have read decent reviews about it though.
I do wear black eyeliner often, but already have a bunch. This one may be part of a giveaway.
Also, $25.00 for a black eyeliner seems a bit high. It’s definitely much more than I’ve ever spent and I’ve been pretty happy with almost every black liquid liner that I’ve ever tried.
Clarins Velvet Lip Perfector ($26.00)
I was excited to see Clarins in my box! While red isn’t my favorite lip color, this one is a bit darker and may be good for fall.
I’m also not a fan of matte finishes, but nothing a little swipe of lip balm can’t fix.
This liquid lipstick is supposed to create a “blur effect,” whatever that means, and is formulated to be super moisturizing, which I love.
Trestique Summer Glow + Go Set ($42.00)
This Trestique set is another item that I was super excited to get. It contains a highlighter, blush, eyeshadow, and eyebrow stick.
The highlighter goes on really bright, but blends beautifully. It’s a great shade for my natural skin tone.
The blush actually goes on really light, so it’s buildable. While I don’t love cream blushes, I will wear this one because I love the color.
The eyeshadow is a neutral tan color with a little shimmer. I have a ton of eyeshadow in similar shades, but I still plan to keep this one too because it’s so pretty.
I feel like I get an eyebrow pencil of some sort every single month (I think I actually do!) and I never use them. I have no interest in them, so I’ll include this one in a future giveaway.
Final Thoughts
After last month’s dud of a box (it happens), I am absolutely thrilled with this one.
The retail value of this particular box variation is $159.00 according to the values listed by BoxyCharm which is a great value for $25. This is especially true when you are going to use all or most of the products included, which I will.
I’ll be sure to review my items on the BoxyCharm website to earn Charms (points). Charms can be exchanged for products after you earn a certain amount.
I’m really looking forward to September’s Boxycharm box. My choice item is an eye cream from Farmacy, which is one of my favorite beauty brands.
